What We Like
+Motorized power zoom with 11 speed settings for smooth, repeatable cinematic transitions
+Wide 28-135mm focal range with constant f/4 aperture in single lens, reducing lens changes
+Minimal focus breathing and focus shift design ideal for video gimbal mounting and smooth focus pulls
+Compact and lightweight for its class (1210g) with internal zoom mechanism maintaining constant physical length
+Hi-Res Zoom compatible with Z8/Z9 for extended reach to 270mm at 4K resolution
+Professional-grade build with weather sealing, advanced Meso Amorphous coating, and cinema-style ergonomic controls
Worth Knowing
Not truly parfocal—focus shifts noticeably when zooming full range (28mm to 135mm)
Moderate to high distortion (up to 4.82% pincushion at 135mm) requires correction in post-production
Premium pricing ($2,600-$2,800) limits accessibility; similar image quality to much cheaper 24-120mm f/4 S alternative
Designed primarily for video, not recommended for still photography; heavier and bulkier than standard zoom lenses

Read our notes on general
The Nikon Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ is a full-frame mirrorless lens targeted toward videographers and hybrid shooters, featuring a full-frame power zoom lens that covers all the focal length sweet spots of 28-135 mm. Constant maximum aperture of f/4 and minimum focus distance of 13.4 in (0.34 m) allows for dynamic closeups with cinematic blurred backgrounds—ideal for product and commercial videos. However, it is not a parfocal lens. Small zoom adjustments are close enough, but going from 28mm to 135mm (or the opposite) will result in the focus position changing, and it's no better than lenses like Nikon's 24-120mm f/4 S in sharpness, distortion, CA, or vignetting, but twice the price.
